Roxane Fournier

SPEED AND EXPERIENCE. Fournier is a top-quality sprinter who already accumulates -despite being just 27- nine years of international racing experience, the last five as part of a UCI squad at FDJ / Futuroscope. Out of her twenty pro victories, eight have been obtained at top-category events, including two stages of the Route de France (2016), the GP Dottignies (2015) as well as stage victories in the Tour de l’Ardèche (2015), the Trophée d’Or (2014) or the Tour of Chongming Island (2015). Her most significant 2018 results are an 8th place in Drenthe; respective 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes at the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour; or good performances in the summer (5th in the Natinoal champs, 6th in a Giro Rosa stage).

AUDE WAS THE KEY. Roxane’s relationship with the other Frenchwoman in the team, Aude Biannic, was a massive factor in the Sannois native’s choice to join this Spanish outfit. Having known each other for more than a decade, they’re the same age and have raced together at all categories. Biannic told her about the great atmosphere inside the team, and made sure she wouldn’t regret joining the Blues.

KEEN TO DO THE CLASSICS. Fournier hopes to take the grudge out after injuries marred her 2018 season, with accidents in the Tour of Flanders and the RideLondon Classique. At her crash in ‘De Ronde’, she coincidentally shared hospital room with a new team-mate, Sheyla Gutiérrez. Roxane explained she had felt “more fear than pain” after her colission with 62km to go, near the Kapelmuur. In 2019, she hopes to get good results in the classics and also support her team-mates wherever they have a chance.

Last October she received the ‘DirectVelo 2018’ prize, given by the French association specialised in cycling, as a recognition to her consistency throughout the season.

Her palmarès away from the road also includes a bronze medal at the European Track Championships (2015), in the scratch race, as well as five national titles in the team pursuit, team sprint and scratch.
